Wreck toll: one driver deceased, one injured
A Wednesday afternoon wreck in the 3000 block of MLK Drive — Highway 82 — claimed the life of one driver and sent a second driver to the hospital. The northbound and southbound traffic in the area was blocked for an extended period of time, Port Arthur police said.
The wreck occurred near the XYZ gate of the Motiva Refinery, according to initial reports.
In an updated report, police said the wreck occurred at about 2:18p.m. Investigation revealed that a white GMC truck traveling south crossed into the northbound lane of traffic and was struck by a Red Chevy truck traveling north.
Police said the GMC truck flipped over the concrete guardrail, landing on its roof. The driver of the GMC was transported to a local hospital.
Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam pronounced the driver of the Red Chevy truck dead at the scene. The names were not being released at the time of the updated report.
