Arrest made in Port Arthur washateria shooting

Port Arthur police Wednesday have arrested a suspect, 69, in connection with the Oct. 24 killing of Michael Lynn Thomas, 56, a homeless man.

Police said they arrested OC Thomas — the victim and arrested man were not related, police said — around 12:17 p.m. A Port Arthur detective arrested the suspect with the support of members of the Jefferson County Warrant Division.

Michael Lynn Thomas was shot once in the abdomen inside Fabric Care Washateria at 2925 25th St. He died at an area hospital.

Police issued a statement that said Michael Lynn Thomas suffered from mental illness.

The victim was buried at Live Oak Memorial Park after a Nov. 3 service.

He is survived by three brothers and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bond for the arrested man was set at $1.5 million.
