PORT NECHES — Development along the riverfront is back up for discussion in Port Neches.

Developers Mike Bolin and Tom Frasier’s formal relationship with the city expired a few months ago and now City Council members are set to discuss how to proceed with potential development of the property during the 4 p.m. meeting Thursday at City Hall, 1005 Merriman St., Port Neches.

The two businessmen had expressed interest in the 51-plus acres of land near Port Neches Riverfront Park in 2015. At that time, they signed a letter of understanding, which established a 180-day period in which the city agreed to not discuss the sale or conveyance of the property with other parties.

The two were looking to bring mixed-use retail to the riverfront, including a restaurant and mixed local and some regional businesses, according to Port Arthur News archives.

They were given several extensions by the city, the last a 12-month extension which expired in August.

In 2017, came the formation of the Port Neches Improvement District to oversee and usher in development along the riverfront.

In other business, the city council is set to discuss two Hurricane Harvey Community Block Development Grant issues, one to award a proposal for a grant administrator and another awarding a proposal for engineering services for infrastructure work.

Two other CDBG issues are also on the table and pertain to the 2019-2010 regular program.

There will also be a public hearing for a replat request for 1401 Dieu St. and a subsequent vote on the topic among other agenda items.
