Published 7:18 pm Sunday, November 11, 2018

Seven Jefferson and Orange county teams qualified for the UIL football playoffs, with four of them getting to host bi-district round games Friday night.

Memorial, Nederland and Port Neches-Groves in 5A will kick off from the comfort of their own stadiums Friday night. Memorial had the second seed from District 9-5A Division I sealed for more than a week and will host Richmond Foster.

PNG’s 34-21 win over Nederland in the Bum Phillips Bowl determined the top seed in District 12-5A Division II, although both teams share the district championship. PNG will meet 11-5A-II fourth-seeded Houston Northside, and Nederland will face third-seeded Fort Bend Willowridge.

In 6A, West Brook will open its title chase against Kingwood at Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium. West Brook was second  in 21-6A but goes in as the highest-ranking small-6A team from that district. Kingwood, which was third in 22-6A, goes in as a second seed in the 6A Division II playoffs.

Teams in 6A do not split into two divisions until the playoffs. This was the first season for 5A to be broken into two 16-district divisions.
