Staff report
Jevonne Pollard has defeated interim Jefferson County Constable Charlie Wiggins to serve the remainder of the Precinct 1 term.
The vote, with all 33 precincts reporting, was 14,046 to 13,337.
Wiggins was named to the interim position in July when Earl White stepped down to become Beaumont fire chief.
Initially, Wiggins said he’d not seek election to a full term, which was a condition of his appointment by the Jefferson County Court of Commissioners. Later, he reversed that decision.
County Judge Jeff Branick, a fellow Republican, asked Wiggins to step down if was going to pursue the November election, but Wiggins declined.
