VOLLEYBALL: PNG, Foster teams to meet at Channelview

Port Neches-Groves will go for its 34th volleyball win of the season, the most since 2012, and its first regional quarterfinal berth in two seasons Friday when it takes on Richmond Foster.

The UIL 5A area round match will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Bill Neal Center at Channelview High School, 828 Sheldon Road. The winner will take on either Fort Bend Hightower or Santa Fe in the 5A Region III quarterfinal.

PNG (33-6) last reached that round of the playoffs in 2016, losing at home to Barbers Hill.

Foster (33-8), the District 24-2A champion, beat Houston Madison in three sets in bi-districts. PNG beat Crosby in four sets.

In Class 4A, Hamshire-Fannett (26-12) is building on its District 22-4A championship season following a sweep of Liberty and will take on Columbia at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Houston ISD Barnett Sports Complex, 6800 Fairway. Columbia (20-15), located south of Houston in West Columbia, swept Houston Washington in the first round.

The winner of H-F vs. Columbia will take on either Huffman or Sweeny.

Orangefield needed four sets to defeat Diboll and will meet Anderson-Shiro in a 3A area round match at 7 p.m. Thursday at Crosby High School, 333 Red Summit Drive. The winner will play either East Bernard or Buna.
