Lamar senior guard Chastadie Barrs will begin the season on the watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which recognizes the top 20 point guards in women’s college basketball.

Barrs is a proven offensive and defensive threat in her three seasons in Beaumont. Averaging 12.1 points and a national-best 6.37 steals per game last season, Barrs holds the Southland Conference record of 456 career steals. She was one assist shy of 200 for her junior year.

Lamar, the reigning Southland regular-season champion, will begin the season Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Louisiana, and will play its home opener Saturday, Nov. 10, against Abilene-based McMurry University.
