One-vehicle wreck claims life of Liberty County woman

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed Monday a Liberty County woman, 26, died in a one-vehicle wreck in Jefferson County.

In an issued statement, DPS said the wreck occurred about 2 p.m. on Kidd Smith Road, near the intersection of Smith Road and Kidd Road, northwest of Cheek.

Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson pronounced the victim deceased.

DPS said that according to preliminary reports, a 2001 Ford pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Kidd Road when it left the roadway and struck a culvert, rolled over several times and came to rest in the ditch. DPS said the victim, from Raywood, was ejected.

The victim’s name would not be released until her family has been notified, DPS said.

Eastbound and westbound traffic lanes of Kidd Road was closed Monday afternoon for an investigation.
