HOUSTON — Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Lake Charles personnel oversaw the salvage of the offshore supply vessel Candy Store, which ran aground north of Monkey Island near Cameron, Louisiana, early Monday morning.
In an issued statement Friday evening, the Coast Guard said the damaged vessel is being transported to a shipyard in Morgan City, Louisiana, for permanent repairs.
The vessel owners and salvage representatives developed and executed a vessel lift plan that allowed them to safely remove the damaged vessel from the water and place it onto a deck barge.
No additional recoverable pollution is present in the vicinity of Monkey Island as a result of the vessel recovery operation.
The cause of the incident remained under investigation, the statement said.
