Weisbrod earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors in both seasons at Lamar University, guiding the Cardinals to back-to-back winning seasons. The 6-foot-6 forward was just six points shy of 1,000 for his LU career and averaged 14.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists.
Weisbrod earned 4A player of the year honors at Nederland in 2014 and began his college career at the University of New Orleans. He transferred to Lamar State to be closer to his family and earned junior-college All-American status in his lone season with the Seahawks.
Weisbrod recently married Allison Jacks, to whom he proposed following a December 2016 game, and the couple has two boys.
Three other Southland players were drafted in the first round: Central Arkansas’ Jordan Howard (10th overall) to Santa Cruz, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Daxter Miles Jr. (11th) to Iowa and Nicholls State’s Roddy Peters (16th) to Northern Arizona. Former University of Houston star Rob Gray was drafted 30th overall (third in second round) by Fort Wayne.
The G League is formerly known as the NBA Development League, or D-League. The name changed in 2017 in honor of its naming sponsor, Gatorade.
