Beaumont robbery suspects caught in Port Arthur
Three suspects in the armed robbery of a Beaumont convenience store, along with two others police believe were involved, were captured in Port Arthur hours after the crime.
Beaumont Police were called shortly after 1 p.m. to a store at 870 Major Drive, according to a press release from Beaumont Police Department. Witnesses said that three young black male suspects, two of whom had handguns, had left in a dark colored pick-up headed west.
A police spokesperson said four juveniles and one adult were arrested in Port Arthur.
The store where the incident occurred is the same one where store clerk Metthananda Kuruppu, 52, was shot and killed during a robbery. A suspect in that crime, Chandler Kyle Ventress, who was 19 at the time of the incident, was found guilty of capital murder sentenced to life.
