Port Arthur Police are investigating a shooting where neither the victim nor the man who allegedly shot in self-defense wish to file charges.

The incident began Sunday with a verbal altercation between a 23-year-old Port Arthur man and a 21-year-old Port Arthur man. The two eventually met up around 8 p.m. at Crawdad’s Convenience Center at the corner of FM 365 and West Port Arthur Road in the Port Acres area of town, Port Arthur Police Det. Mike Hebert said.

That’s when the 21-year-old allegedly shot the other man in the leg.

“He suffered a non-life threatening injury and was treated and released from a local hospital,” Hebert said. “The suspect, a 21-year-old man, contacted Port Arthur Police Department and advised he had returned fire in self-defense. Neither wanted to pursue charges.”

No arrests have been made at this time and the Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident.
