Jasper County wrecks claims elderly woman’s life

An elderly woman was killed Monday afternoon after the vehicle in which she was traveling left the roadway in Jasper County.
The Department of Public Safety said in an issued statement that Mamie Bradford, 89, of San Augustine was extricated from a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 96, just south of RR255 in Jasper County. Troopers responded at 2:15 p.m.
Preliminary reports say a 2016 BMW passenger vehicle was traveling northbound when due to inclement weather and wet road conditions, the driver lost control and traveled off the roadway. The vehicle rolled over before coming to rest in a ditch.
The driver, Linda Bradford, 52, of San Augustine was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial hospital with serious injuries. Bradford was later transported to a hospital in Houston.
The elder Bradford was transported to Jasper Memorial hospital. She was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Ronny Billingsley at the hospital.
DPS could not confirm the relationship between the occupants of the vehicle.
Troopers will continue to investigate this fatal crash, DPS said.
