The Texas Department of Public Safety said in an issued statement that the four died when two pickup trucks collided on U.S. Highway 69, two miles south of Woodville.

Justices of the Peace James Moore and Trisher Ford pronounced the deaths, DPS said. Names of the victims would not be revealed pending notification of family members. Troopers continued to work to positively identify the deceased victims Monday.

US-69 was partially opened for northbound and southbound traffic by mid-afternoon. Motorists were urged to use caution while traveling in the area.

In an initial statement, DPS said the wreck occurred around 1:45 p.m. and involved a southbound Ford F250 pickup truck and a northbound Dodge pick up. Troopers said that preliminary reports show the Ford crossed the center dividing line and struck the Dodge.

Woodville is about 75 miles north of Port Arthur.
