DIBOLL — It was a tough night on the road for the Bridge City Cardinals Friday night as they fell to the Diboll Lumberjacks 42-7 on the road in first-year head coach Allen DeShazo’s debut as head coach.

The Lumberjacks (1-0) went up 7-0 early on as receiver Javaughn Luster hauled in a 45-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dylan Maskunas.

Luster wasn’t  done yet, as he hauled in another long bomb, this time from 65 yards out as the Lumberjacks snared a 13-0  edge.

Diboll got on the board again to make it 21-0 when they scored on a fumble return.

The Cardinals (0-1) trimmed it to 21-7 before the first half ended when quarterback Cace Skinner connected with receiver Cory Westlund on a 61-yard scoring dart.

The Lumberjacks increased their cushion to 28-7 by the end of the third quarter as freshman running back Jeremiah Gums broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown jaunt.

Diboll was able  to jump up 35-7 after running back Chase Tamez completed a 12-play, 65-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown gallop.

Diboll running back D’aris McMillan capped off the night when he broke loose through the Cardinal secondary and scampered 80 yards for a touchdown.

The Lumberjacks amassed nearly 400 yards of total offense while the Cardinals had 255, but had three costly turnovers.
