FOOTBALL: PNG’s Johnson among Mr. Texas Football watch list

Port Neches-Groves quarterback Roschon Johnson is among a list of 100 players placed on the watch list for the Mr. Texas Football award, presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

Each week, fans can vote for a player of the week at www.texasfootball.com. At the end of the season, 10 finalists will be named. Fans can then cast their vote for Mr. Texas Football. The award winner will be announced before the Academy Sports and Outdoors Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 in Houston.

Johnson, a senior who is committed to the University of Texas, threw for 2,920 yards and rushed for 1,607 in leading the Indians to a share of the 2017 District 22-5A championship. He totaled 3,854 offensive yards as a sophomore.

Johnson was invited to compete for a spot in the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback camp sponsored by Nike.

PNG will host Silsbee at 7 p.m. Friday as one of 10 games across Texas on which Fox Sports Southwest will provide “live look-ins” during broadcasts of the Brock at Brownwood (5:30 p.m.) and Lufkin at Longview (8:30 p.m.) games.
