PORT NECHES — Patrons to Port Neches-Groves High School varsity games will see some changes for the sake of security.

Julie Gauthier, assistant superintendent for Port Neches-Groves Independent School District, said there is no specific reason for the change other than to enhance safety and the overall PNG football experience.

The changes include:

  • There will be four single-file lines. Please look for the sign that designates the line you should be in:
  • Students and general admission — 1 line
  • Season ticket holders — 3 lines
  • Reserved ticket holders will have their season pass cards scanned upon entry.
  • All personal items will go through a security check such as purses, bags, and diaper bags
  • No outside food or drinks allowed in the stadium (i.e. Sonic drinks, Yeti cups)
  • No backpacks are allowed in the stadium
  • Both the stadium and ticket booth open at 6 p.m. Plan on arriving early so that you have time to go through security checkpoints.
  • Exceptions will be made for those with medical requirements or special needs.
  • PNGISD reserves the right to disallow any items that are deemed unacceptable to the stadium. The district is not responsible for any items that are confiscated by security during stadium entry.

The new rules are only for varsity home games. Guathier said those who attend Thursday’s scrimmage will see a preview of the new stadium safety rules. The first two games of the season — Aug. 31 and Sept. 5.

The district has hired extra police and contracted with a security firm that will perform the bag checks.
