Beginning Wednesday, the intersection of Nederland Avenue and 12^th Street will be closed for the next two weeks.The Nederland Avenue side of the intersection will not close. Only the side where 12th street intersects will be close.

City Manager Chris Duque said the closure is necessary for the safety of motorists and the construction crew.

“There is going to be major utility work at that intersection,” he said. “It was necessary for us to expand the work site and shut down the intersection. It wouldn’t be safe for people to drive through there.”

Duque said the intersection closure is expected to last two weeks and that schools have been notified in case they need to make adjustments to bus routes and side streets will remain open.

“In order for us to do this as quickly and as safely as possible, this was the best the way,” Duque said.
