VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Nederland proves top Dogs over Kelly

The non-district volleyball slate that has given Nederland many tough tests seems to be paying off for the Bulldogs.

Host Nederland beat Kelly 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 on Friday for its third straight victory and will try to add to the streak starting with a 10 a.m. match against Angleton today in the Dickinson tournament.

Jenna Jarrett led Nederland with 24 assists, Destyn Miguez had 17 digs and two aces, Meg Sheppard finished off seven kills, Karley McGill totaled 12 kills, five digs and two solo blocks and Hannah Hickey made five kills.

Memorial 3, Kirbyville 1

In Kirbyville, a quick start to the season continued for the Titans, who beat the Wildcats 25-14, 19-25, 25-16, 25-18.

Statistics were not available. Memorial (10-3) will resume play in the Orangefield tournament today. The Titans went 2-2 there Thursday.

PNG 3, Galveston Ball 0

In Galveston, Kaitlyn Gil had 17 kills and 10 service points, and Port Neches-Groves (11-2) swept Ball 25-18, 25-14, 25-15.

Harlee Barnwell led the Rock-A-Noos in assists with 13. Holly Jones totaled 10.

Liz Bolyard converted eight kills, Layla Stansbury had five and Barnwell had two. Bayja Newby led the defensive effort with six digs, while Gil added five and Barnwell totaled four.

Newby and Stansbury each served eight points. Jones and Kasidee Sartin each totaled seven.

PNG will continue play in the Dickinson tournament today.

Sabine Pass 3, Bob Hope 0

In Port Arthur, Jamesia Jones’ and Jaizee Landry’s five kills apiece led the Sharks in a 25-11, 25-17, 25-13 rout of Bob Hope.

Landry finished with four aces, and Yainn Zuniga totaled three kills and two aces for Sabine Pass (5-3). Nevaeh Jones had three blocks, and Joanna Smolsky recorded two kills.

The Sharks will host Chester next Friday. Bob Hope, competing as a Texas Christian Athletic League team this season after starting out in the UIL, will host High Island on Tuesday.
