Port Arthur Interim City Manager Harvey Robinson confirmed Monday that Tim Duriso will be named the new police chief.
Duriso is supervisory special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration who previously worked for PAPD for 13 years.
The Port Arthur City Council will receive Robinson’s recommendation during the 5:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday on the fifth floor of City Hall, 444 Fourth St.
“His experience and background training pretty much speak for itself when looking at the needs of the department and the community and who’s best prepared at this point to address those issues,” Robinson said.
The new chief will replace Patrick Melvin, who abruptly resigned his post May 19 after less than two years with the department.
The other three finalists included: PAPD Deputy Chief Martin “Bubba” Blitch, who has over 32 years service; John Leger, SWAT commander with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office who previously spent 18 years with PAPD, and Alton Baise, who has over 32 years experience in police work and is currently employed with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office as fugitive warrant officer. He was previously employed with PAPD.
