VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Indians score three sweeps in Huffman tournament

Port Neches-Groves did not drop a single set through three best-of-three matches in the Huffman tournament on Friday.

PNG beat Channelview 25-16, 25-11, Fort Bend Willowridge 25-6, 25-9 and Goose Creek Memorial 25-11, 25-20, and improved its overall record to 4-0.

For the three matches, Kaitlyn Gil totaled 30 kills, Liz Bolyard scored 18 and Layla Stansbury had 13. Holly Jones made 34 assists, with Harlee Barnwell dishing 17.

Jones served 20 points, Halley Smith had 15, Gil served 13 and Kasidee Sartin connected on 11. Smith finished with 17 digs, Gil 13, Bayja Newby and Harley Barnwell 11 each and Jones seven.

The Rock-A-Noos will host Lumberton tonight and return to action in Huffman on Saturday.

MEMORIAL SPLITS IN WOODVILLE

In the Woodville tournament, Memorial (2-1) beat Shepherd 25-11, 25-19 before suffering its first loss the season to Central Heights 25-15, 26-24, 15-9.

Statistics were not available. Memorial will visit West Orange-Stark tonight and return to the Woodville tournament on Saturday.

NEDERLAND 0-3 IN PEARLAND

In the Pearland tournament, Nederland (1-3) endured a long 0-3 day after failing to win a single set.

Richmond Foster dominated Nederland 25-6, 25-16. New Braunfels then routed the Bulldogs 25-7, 25-15, and Houston St. Agnes took a 25-15, 25-13 win.

The Bulldogs will continue play in Pearland today and take on Leander Glenn, Trinity Christian and another team to be determined.
