Store fire leads to arson indictment
A Beaumont man who attempted to burn an American flag was indicted for arson after the flames spread to the furniture store nearby.
Carey Nathaniel Hill, 54, was accused of setting aflame a flag at Bel Furniture, 4455 Eastex Freeway shortly before 4 a.m. July 12.
Store security cameras captured an image of a man believed to be Hill lighting the flag on fire, which spread to the furniture store’s awning and caused extensive damage.
Hill had been arrested on unrelated charges and was in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility. He was arrested for arson and an indictment was returned this week. Bond was set at $25,000.
