Catherine Ann Doremus Boneau died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the age of 85.
Born in Hopkinsville, KY, and raised in Tyler, TX, at 15 years old, Ann relocated with her family to Port Arthur, where she would spend the remainder of her life.
Ann’s passion and persistence for nursing became a reality when she was admitted to St Mary School of Nursing at the age of 16. Upon graduation, Ann spent the next 47 years dedicating herself to her profession and her patients in the OB/Labor and Delivery Department of St Mary Hospital.
Ann married James Boneau and they raised 4 children, Michael, Dane, Karon and Jim. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Ann was a devout catholic, serving on the parish council, and volunteering to help divorced catholic and parents of GLBT children and becoming a Eucharist minister, delivering communion and comfort to home and bed-bound parishioners.
In 1992, Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer. As with so many of the challenges she met, Ann turned this event into a project to serve her community. She became a volunteer and counselor for the Reach to Recovery program through the American Cancer Society.
Ann was a very sociable person who loved spending time with family and friends. She also loved to travel, particularly to the Pacific Northwest.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
