Toddler dies in collision in Beaumont

A 3-year-old child was killed and a 2-year-old was taken to a Houston hospital in critical condition after a Wednesday night collision in Beaumont.

In an issued statement, Beaumont police witnesses told them a southbound Buick on Avenue E traveled through a stop sign at Franklin around 9:45 p.m. and collided with a westbound Nissan SUV with five occupants.

Police said as a result of the crash, Landon Slaughter, who would have turned 4 next week, was killed and the second child was critically injured. The other occupants sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Buick declined transport to a hospital, but later was found to have internal injuries and was taken to a Houston hospital.

Police said several witnesses were present, the investigation was continuing and charges are pending.
