GROVES — Two groups of local heroes got some tasty treats delivered to them on Saturday.
Members of Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Troop 130052 brought 25 cases of Girl Scout cookies to the Groves Fire Department where the cookies will be divvied up between them and the police department.
Groves Police Sgt. Alex Ferrell said they are extremely grateful for the donation and was ready to find his favorite treat.
“I didn’t know they also had s’mores cookies,” Ferrell said with a laugh. “I was on a diet until this morning.”
During the 2018 Cookie Program, the Girl Scouts rallied the community to donate more than 10,000 cases or 120,000 packages of cookies to first responders who provided relief during Hurricane Harvey across the 26-county jurisdiction as part of Cookies4Heroes, according to information from the organization.
Girl Scout Elisabeth Elliott said it felt amazing to deliver the cookies to the heroes.
“Following their extraordinary efforts during Hurricane Harvey, we want to tell first responders across Southeast Texas, thank you,” Mary Vitek, GSSJC’s CEO, said in a press release. “First responders have always been very supportive of Girl Scouts by opening their doors to teach girls about their profession and the positive work they are doing in our communities.”
Cookies4Heroes is a program where cookie customers can support Girl Scouts by purchasing cookies and donating their purchase. These cookies are then given by the council to first responders and organizations that support the military.
