A lone victim was found murdered Thursday night on a stairwell at Cypress Bend Apartments, 1450 N. Major, Beaumont police said in an issued statement.

Police said they responded to a shooting call at the apartments at 9:59 p.m.

The victim was Marcus Mitchell, 37, from Beaumont.

At the apartments, police found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper chest. Beaumont paramedics on the scene said he was dead.

Police said a justice of the peace was notified and an autopsy was ordered. The investigation was ongoing.

Detectives on Friday were seeking a vehicle seen leaving the complex immediately after the shooting. Witnesses described a white, four-door Nissan Versa with Florida license plates.
