NCAA BASEBALL: BC’s Shugart throws 6 scoreless frames in Texas’ 10-0 blanking of TSU

AUSTIN (AP) — Chase Shugart of Bridge City pitched six scoreless innings, DJ Petrinsky hit a three-run homer and Big 12 regular-season champion Texas beat Texas Southern 10-0 in an NCAA regional opener Friday night.

Kody Clemens, the Big 12 player of the year and son of seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, had a two-run single in the fifth for the Longhorns (38-20). David Hamilton then stole home to make it 9-0

Shugart (5-3) limited SWAC Tournament champ Texas Southern (27-27) to four singles while striking out five without a walk.

Texas Southern starter Peyton Schneider (4-7) allowed seven runs in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked four.

The top-seeded Longhorns play Texas A&M tonight, the first postseason meeting for the former Big 12 and Southwest Conference rivals since 2014.

TEXAS A&M 10, INDIANA 3

AUSTIN (AP) — John Doxakis had a career-high 12 strikeouts while allowing only one hit over six innings as Texas A&M won its 10th consecutive NCAA regional game, beating Indiana 10-3 in the opener of the Austin Regional on Friday.

Doxakis (8-5) struck out the first five batters he faced.

Zach DeLoach and Logan Foster each had three hits for the Aggies (40-20), who are the No. 3 seed in Austin.

Luke Miller homered twice — solo shots in the seventh and ninth innings to give him 13 for the season — for second-seeded Indiana (38-18).
