John “Keyhole Club” Hayward

John Hayward, 79, of Port Arthur passed away Saturday, May 26, 2018 surrounded by his family.  He was a longtime resident of Port Arthur and worked at the Keyhole Club for many years.  He was a faithful member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.  He served as a Grand Deputy of True Vine Masonic Lodge #187.

He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Hayward; five children, Sharon Veazie, Nola Trainer (Reginald), Robert Hayward (Brenda), John Hayward, Jr. (Frieda) and Leo Tompkins (Angela); 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Shelvin and Carolyn Hayward; one brother, Otis Hayward, Jr.; eleven sisters-in-law, Victoria Tompkins, Adele Jefferson, Eva White, Gwen Williams, Mae Tompkins, Barbara Tompkins, Shirley Tompkins and Alberta Tompkins, Eddie Pearl Hurts, Essie Mae Tompkins and Bobbie Jean Dixon; nine brothers-in-law, Judge Tompkins, Donald White, John Tompkins, Robert Brown, Leo Tompkins, George Tompkins, Albert Earl Tompkins, Abraham Tompkins and Jerome Tompkins; three uncles and aunts; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Solid Rock Baptist Church with visitation from 12 noon until service time.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
