BEAUMONT — The Lamar women’s golf team placed a pair of student-athletes on the Southland Conference All-Academic team that was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Sophomore Elodie Chapelet (Souraide, France) was named to the first team, while senior Olivia Le Roux (Brackenfell, South Africa) was a second-team selection.
“Elodie and Olivia are two examples of dedicated student-athletes,” LU women’s golf coach Jessica Steward said. “They work hard to keep their golf games in good shape without sacrificing academic performance. They prioritize, manage their time well and set great examples for their teammates to follow.”
Chapelet, a business major with a 3.38 GPA, posted eight-top 10 finishes in nine events, including six-top-five finishes and one victory this season along with winning both of her matches at the Cardinal Challenge, LU’s only match-play event of the season. Chapelet, a two-time All-Southland Conference selection and the 2017 Southland Women’s Golfer of the Year and Freshman of the Year, averaged a team-leading 73.96 strokes per round this season, with a low round of 68.
Le Roux, who just graduated from Lamar, with a 4.00 GPA in biology, was a second-team selection this season. A three-time selection to the all-academic team, Le Roux averaged 77.43 strokes per round this season over 26 rounds, with a low round of 70. Le Roux posted three top-10 finishes this season.
“Olivia holds a 4.0 in biology, which is difficult to do on its own without the time required to compete in athletics,” Steward said. “We wish her well as she embarks on her next adventure in life, and I know she will be extremely successful in whatever endeavor she chooses.”
