5 suspects — 1 in body armor — charged with burglary

Five suspects — one wore body armor — were arrested late Friday after Jefferson County deputies stopped them from fleeing a burglary scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said Monday that a homeowner in the 9700 block of Tram called officers around 11:41 p.m. and said several people were burglarizing his shop.The homeowner later called to say the burglars were backing off his property in their truck.

Deputies stopped the suspects as they were leaving and discovered four adult males, one male juvenile inside the truck. While checking the vehicle, deputies found a stolen chainsaw and weed eater in the bed of the truck.

Two loaded handguns were found in the truck’s console. The driver was Jefferson Cantrell, 30, a registered sex offender from Beaumont. He was charged with burglary of a building and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Front-seat passenger Lamond Hines, 38, of Beaumont was wearing body armor, deputies discovered. He was charged with burglary of a building, possession of a firearm by a felon and unlawful possession of body armor.

Tyler Lyles, 20, of Beaumont was charged with burglary of a building. Backseat Delton Marpoe, 17, of Beaumont was charged with burglary of a building. The juvenile was released to a parent to face burglary charges in the juvenile courts.
