SOFTBALL: 22-5A honors PNG’s Hunt as MVP

Port Neches-Groves senior pitcher Britni Hunt won most valuable player honors from District 22-5A.

Hunt helped PNG win a share of the district championship with Livingston. She posted a 2.45 ERA and struck out 149 in 128 1/3 innings, walked 46 and allowed 45 earned runs on 102 hits.

Hunt and the Indians took home four of the district’s superlative awards. Catcher Kaitlyn Boudreaux was named defensive player of the year, sophomore Maylin Louvier earned newcomer of the year and Jessica Lemoine shared co-coach of the year accolades with Christina Jaques of Livingston.

Hannah Goode of Nederland, who posted a .600 batting average in district play (.540 on the season with six triples, seven doubles and 20 RBI), is the offensive player of the year.

The district also announced its first- and second-team members:

  • First team: Pitcher Destini Trahan of Nederland; infielders Hannah Denman, Bayja Newby and Sydnee Adams of PNG, Allysa Collazo of Nederland, and Raygan Malvo of Beaumont Central; outfielders Rachel Hammersmith and Brooke Smith of PNG, and Taylor Hartsell and Kaitlyn Sandel of Livingston; utility player Krista Reyes of Lumberton and designated player Kasidee Sartin of PNG.
  • Second team: Pitcher Bailey Rowe of Vidor; catchers Hannah Grumbles and Keiten Day, Lumberton; infielders Brittany Taylor of Nederland, Krista Jones and Marley Mahoney of Livingston, and Gracie Gulley and Addison Langston of Lumberton; outfielders Callie Jourdan of PNG, Kallye Taylor of Nederland, Skylar Head of Vidor and Sadie Parker of Livingston.
  • Local honorable menton players: Carley Pompa and Kristan Traxler of Nederland; Cameron Niedenthal of PNG; and Marina Morua and Zenteria Chatman of Port Arthur Memorial.
