GOLF: Landry withdraws from Wells Fargo Championship; Stefani 13th

Valero Texas Open winner Andrew Landry withdrew from the first round of the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

PGATour.com reported Landry, an Austin resident originally from Groves, left with an illness that was not disclosed.

Landry, who recently became a father, won the Texas Open in San Antonio on April 22 by two strokes over Trey Mullinax and Sean O’Hair.

Lamar graduate Shawn Stefani shot 2-under 140 through two rounds in the Wells Fargo and is tied for 13th place with six other golfers, moving up 21 spots from the first round. Chris Stroud, originally of Port Neches, shot 73 and 72 and is tied for 69th at 3-over, finishing right at the cutline to continue playing this weekend.
