FOOTBALL: Morse breaks own LU record in squat

Former Port Neches-Groves quarterback Adam Morse, who’s going into his third season at Lamar, broke his own record in the squat during Lamar football’s Night of Champions powerlifting event Tuesday evening.

Morse squatted 480 pounds while competing with the Stand Up team. Elvin Martinez set a new mark for kickers in the squat at 500 pounds, and Derrion Randle squatted 515 and cleaned 340 to set two running back records.

Darien Wilson, a transfer defensive lineman, squatted 600 pounds and benched 470 on the field, while David Crosley set linebacker marks for the clean (367), squat (525) and the three-lift total (1,262).

Other Lamar records that fell came in the bench for receivers (Zae Giles, 305), squat for tight ends (Dawud Shorts, 525) and three-lift total for offensive lineman (Garrett Bowery, 1,313).
