SOFTBALL: Livingston takes top seed over PNG

LIVINGSTON — Port Neches-Groves 3-0 lead was eclipsed in the fifth inning.

Livingston posted a four-spot in the inning and held on to earn the top seed out of District 22-5A for the upcoming 5A playoffs with a 4-3 victory Friday. The two teams share the district championship, but PNG (18-11-1, 13-1 in 22-5A) forced the playoff with a 4-3 win on the road Tuesday.

Brooke Smith smashed a solo home run and Callie Jourdan drove in two runs in the fourth inning to put the Indians ahead. Smith went 3 for 3 with a run scored and Jourdan was 3 for 4.

Britni Hunt struck out seven in the game for PNG, but Livingston went ahead with four runs in the sixth.

PNG’s Bayja Newby also had a hit and scored a run.

Bi-district round games have not yet been determined.
