A local golf pro was sentenced to five years in prison for two cases of sexual assault of a child.
Kurt Henry Picard, 54, entered a guilty plea about six weeks ago and sentencing was held Wednesday in Judge Larry Gist’s court.
Jefferson County Assistant District Attorney Kim Pipkin asked Gist to sentence Picard to prison while defense attorney Lum Hawthorn asked for deferred probation.
Picard was facing anywhere from two to 20 years in prison for each count.
“I was hoping for a little bit more time but ultimately he will serve time in prison,” Pipkin said.
The victim was 15 at the time of the incidents in August 2016. According to archive information, a parent of the juvenile noticed inappropriate test messages on her phone and police were alerted.
Picard was arrested and later bonded out on two $75,000 bonds.
