PREP ROUNDUP: Ortiz’s RBI pushes Bulldogs past Pirates

NEDERLAND — Alex Ortiz drove in the winning run Friday, and Nederland avenged a loss to Vidor earlier in the week by picking up a 2-1 win at home.
Trenton Simon batted 2 for 3, and Landon Hiltz and Alex Ortiz accounted for the Bulldogs’ other hits. Hiltz scored a run and stole a base.
Conner Kemp struck out eight in five innings, and Alan Underwood earned the save.
Nederland (17-6-1, 9-1 in 22-5A) will host Livingston on Tuesday.
Memorial 15, Ozen 2
BEAUMONT — Adler Kithler threw six strikeouts in four innings and smashed a grand-slam home run in leading Port Arthur Memorial to a rout of Ozen.
Van Ellas delivered two K’s in two relief innings. David Torres batted 2 for 4 with an RBI, Riyad Antoine and Miguel Martinez (double) each batted in two runs and Brandon Chaney had a double and RBI.
Memorial visits Vidor on Tuesday.
PNG 14, Lumberton 4
PORT NECHES — Hitting in the 6-slot, Josh Hranicky drove home six runs.
Hranicky’s 4-for-4 batting led the Indians’ onslaught at home Friday. Clean-up hitter Carson Roccaforte scored four runs and went 3 for 3 with an RBI. Khristian Curtis went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs, Holden Lane was 2 for 2 with three RBI and three runs, and Austin Bost, Drake Varnado, Cameron Stansbury, Brandon Petix and Cameron Abate each had a run.
Petix struck out six and allowed three earned runs on seven hits in four innings. Jamison Simmons threw an eight-pitch perfect fifth inning.
PNG (14-9-3, 8-2 in 22-5A) will take on Beaumont Central on Tuesday.
SOFTBALL
PNG 20, Central 0
BEAUMONT — The stage is set for a battle for (a share of) first place in District 22-5A.
Kaitlyn Boudreaux homered and doubled to lead the Indians’ rout of the Jaguars, setting up a meeting at Livingston on Tuesday. Livingston (23-1-1, 13-0 in 22-5A) beat Nederland 4-1 to remain unbeaten in district play.
Cameron Niedenthal and Callie Jordan each doubled twice, Maylin Louvier and Hannah Denman tripled, and Taylor Dominguez, Rachel Hammersmith and Kasidee Sartin doubled one each.
Boudreaux was 4 for 4, drove in five runs and scored two runs. Hammersmith and Jourdan each lined three hits, and Niedenthal finished with two hits.
Niedenthal struck out five.
Livingston 4, Nederland 1
LIVINGSTON — The Lions put up a pair of two-spots to set the tone against the Bulldogs.
Hannah Goode went 2 for 3, and Brittany Taylor had Nederland’s only other hit. Destini Trhan struck out six, but allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits in a complete-game defeat.
Nederland visits Memorial on Tuesday.
