The Spring never seemed so bright

when we lost you and your light to some

far distant shore.

But you’ve been gone and away

for longer than we know

trapped in between oceans, no more to roam.

But now, at last, your light is called home.

May peace reign over you.

May that soft embrace last

For eternity.

Geraldine Crockett Lyons passed away peacefully on March 27, 2018, in Gleneden Beach, Oregon, where she had lived the last decade of her long life.  Gerry was born on December 16, 1927, at her grandmother’s home in Waelder, Texas.  The first daughter of Robert Slater Crockett and Willie May Holland Crockett, Gerry was almost a life-long resident of the Port Arthur area.  She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and The University of Texas.  After receiving her Bachelor’s degree from UT, Gerry married William Burnett LeBlanc.  She and Bill had three children.

After her marriage to Bill ended, Gerry went back to college and obtained her teaching certificate and ultimately a Master’s degree in education with a specialization in diagnosing learning disabilities.  She worked for many years as a special education teacher and also as an education diagnostician.  She was dedicated to her students and loved her work.

Gerry married her next door neighbor, Walter Andrew Lyons, in 1977.  They enjoyed many wonderful years together until his death in 2004.  They loved attending Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and were active in all phases of church work and activity.  In addition to her church, Gerry enjoyed flower gardening, working as a volunteer for various social service organizations in the community, and socializing with a wide circle of friends.

Sadly, dementia took control of Gerry’s final years.  As her mind weakened, her sweet nature remained.  Even when she didn’t know her children’s names, she responded to their presence with a smile.

Her children are thankful for her love and her efforts to raise responsible adults who could not escape her ingrained work ethic.  She was a cheerful, kind, and loving mother and grandmother who leaves many funny and fond memories behind.

Gerry will be missed by her children Robert Crockett LeBlanc and wife Cindy Brown LeBlanc, Fadra LeBlanc Day and husband Thomas Richard Day, Frederick Burnett LeBlanc and wife Cindy Robinson LeBlanc; her grandchildren Blythe Bassart, Brook Day, Dylan LeBlanc, Yvette LeBlanc, and Claire LeBlanc; and 4 great-grandchildren.
