SAN MARCOS — Savana Guidry extended her hitting streak to 11 games, matching her career high, but the Lamar Cardinals couldn’t overcome a rocky first inning in a 6-2 loss to the host Texas State Bobcats in a non-conference softball game Wednesday night.

Texas State erupted for three runs in the bottom of the first off LU starter Laura Napoli (9-8), getting three hits in the inning, the big one a two-run double by Ariel Ortiz. Napoli settled down after that, keeping the Bobcats off the scoreboard over her final two innings of work.

The Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Guidry’s two-out bloop double to left field scored Corina Thornton, who led off the inning with a walk.

Texas State (26-8) broke it open in the fifth inning with three runs thanks to a pair of home runs off LU reliever Taylor Gruell. Tara Oltmann hit a two-run homer to left with one out to make it 5-1. Two batters later, Haleigh Davis hit a solo shot that bounced off the top of the wall in left-center before going over to make it 6-1.

LU (20-17) threatened in the top of the sixth, as Guidry and Shannon Klaus opened the inning with back-to-back singles, but could only manage one run in the frame, as Kendall Talley’s two-out single plated Guidry. The Cards stranded two runners in the inning.

Texas State starter Megan King (3-0) pitched the complete-game win. King scattered six hits, walking one and striking out one.

Napoli took the loss, allowing five hits and three runs in three innings, walking two. Gruell allowed three hits and three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Gruell walked one and struck out one. Anissa Rodriguez pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for LU, allowing one hit in her scoreless stint.
