NEDERLAND — The magical world of Harry Potter has arrived in Nederland and is ready for muggles and wizards alike and you don’t need to ride Hogwart’s Express to get there

K & K’s Wizard Café, 1607 Nederland Ave., is the dream of mom and daughter duo Kimberly and Karli Christian. The two have been major fans of the books and movies for decades.

They have season passes to Universal Studios, home of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter; have traveled to London on Harry Potter-esque excursions; bought tickets years in advance for various productions; and collected a plethora of memorabilia, signed and unsigned.

While searching for a home for their themed café they conjured up another idea — a Harry Potter inspired Wizard Summer Camp for kids ages 5 to12 with crafts, games and more. The summer camp will be held at the Clifton Steamboat Museum in Beaumont.

Not long after the summer camp idea was launched they found a home on Nederland Avenue and things began to fall into place.

Eleven years have passed since the seventh and final installment of the Harry Potter series debuted and seven years have gone by since the final movie (not including spin-off movies).

“Harry Potter is just as popular now if not more,” Kimberly Christian said.

Universal themes of friendship, love and good triumphing over evil have kept the tale popular.

“It is a good story that everyone can relate to,” Karli Christian said, to which the mom added “and people like to share them with their kids.”

The 1,200-square-foot building features HP memorabilia from replicas of the main characters to a replica of Gryffindor Tower, a sorting hat, to posters and more.
