Police say suspect shot man, his dog

Police have identified a suspect in the shooting of a man and his dog and anticipate filing formal charges next week.

The 50-year-old male victim and his dog were outside their apartment at Arthur Square Apartments, 1600 Main Ave. when the shooting occurred around 5:36 p.m. Thursday.

A Port Arthur Police detective said the male victim suffered a gunshot wound to his hip area and was sent to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. He is expected to recover.

The dog was picked up by an animal control officer and is doing well.

Multiple shots were fired during the incident and police recovered seven spent shell casings.

Police believe the suspect is a 29-year-old man but did not speculate on the connection between the suspect and victim.

Police anticipate filing three separate felony charges against the suspect, whose name has not been released.
