Bad sixth inning spoils LU’s hopes

SAN ANTONIO – Leading 2-1 heading into the sixth inning, Lamar (5-18, 1-7 Southland) appeared to be in control of Saturday’s game against the University of Incarnate Word (14-11, 4-4 Southland). Six runs allowed to UIW in the bottom of the sixth proved too much to overcome, and Big Red ultimately fell to San Antonio’s Cards 8-3.

Cole Coker collected his second single of the day in the third and scored when Robin Adames reached first on a fielder’s choice error with one out. Chase Kemp then drove Adames home on an RBI groundout, giving Lamar a 2-1 lead.

Jason Blanchard (0-2, 2.45 ERA) will take the mound for Lamar today.
