Beaumont police Friday were investigating a crash that killed an elderly woman on Dowlen Road.

Police said in an issued statement that they responded to an 8:46 p.m. Thursday crash in the 400 block of Dowlen. Witnesses said an eastbound vehicle in the 6500 block of Lexington Drive traveled through the intersection across Dowlen Road into the Westmont parking lot. There, it crashed into a concrete column in front of Talbots clothing store.

The driver was transported to a local hospital but the front, right seat passenger, 86-year-old Bernice Waddell, died at the scene.

The crash remained under investigation Friday.
