It’s a case of neighbor helping neighbor between Jefferson County and the city of Port Arthur.
The Jefferson County Commissioners Court will consider for approval of an interlocal agreement between Jefferson County, Precinct 3, and the city for cleaning and grading of ditches in Port Acres.
Michael “Shane” Sinegal, Precinct 3 county commissioner, said this is a response to a request to the citizens of Port Acres.
Sinegal attended a town hall meeting on Feb. 6 in Port Acres and told them he will do anything he can do to alleviate drainage problems. Once this item is approved by the commissioners court he will meet with concerned citizens in Port Acres and the city and work on the worst areas first.
“This is not a quick fix,” Sinegal said. “This will be a constant interlocal agreement when my guys have some downtime. They’re done with Hamshire now. My guys do a pristine job.”
The interlocal agreement read Jefferson County Precinct 3 has from time to time provided labor and equipment for the cleaning, grading of ditches and conducting maintenance work. Likewise the city of Port Arthur suffered significant damages from Tropical Storm Harvey for such work.
The city, furthermore, does not have an adequate supply of the labor or equipment for such a task. Jefferson County, therefore, will assist the city with labor and equipment suitable for the cleaning, grading of ditches and conducting maintenance work in Port Acres.
