Pipe-wielding woman may be linked to other crimes

Port Arthur police believe a woman who beat someone with a pipe this week during a home invasion may be connected to other violent crimes in the city.
In addition, the suspect, identified as Marissa Jade Tibbetts, 25, is believed to run in the same group as Raul Trejo, who was charged this week with the murder of a Sabine Pass man.
Tibbetts was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery for the Jan. 30 incident.
Port Arthur Police believe Tibbetts and an unknown male forcibly entered an apartment in the 1200 block of Rosedale Avenue around 11:22 p.m. Tuesday, where they demanded money and drugs from a woman there. The victim suffered multiple injuries after she was struck with the pipe, according to the probable cause affidavit for Tibbetts’ arrest.
The suspects then went to an upstairs apartment where they demanded money and drugs from a man who told police Tibbetts struck him multiple times in the face with a pipe.
The suspects then fled as police arrived and the male, armed with a gun, could not be captured. Police found Tibbetts hiding in a closet under a dirty clothes hamper in the upstairs apartment. She was taken into custody, where she made a statement to detectives.
PAPD Det. Mike Hebert said police believe Tibbetts belongs to the same circle of acquaintances as Raul Trejo.
Trejo, 39, is one of two men who were held at bay by a burglary victim at Chase Bank on Wednesday. While he was in custody, police were able to connect Trejo with the Jan. 26 shooting death of Jonah Jarritt Rivera.
Rivera was at his Sabine Pass home when Trejo and two other men forcibly entered the home, police believe. Rivera approached Trejo to protect the other people in his home, witnesses said, and was shot in the face by Trejo. Rivera died from his injuries.
“Marissa Tibbetts could be connected to other crimes in the city, including armed robbery and home invasion,” Hebert said.
People with information about any of these crimes are asked to call Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas at 833-TIPS or the Port Arthur Police Department at 983-8600.
