The News staff report

West Orange-Stark’s boys basketball team is forfeiting four victories in District 22-4A play due to the use of an ineligible player.

West Orange-Cove Consolidated ISD Superintendent Rickie Harris, in a statement to the Orange Leader, said his district discovered the ineligibility Wednesday and reported it to the UIL Executive Committee that day. WOCCISD, however, is preparing to appeal the UIL’s decision to enact the forfeitures.

The forfeitures will drop the Mustangs to last place in 22-4A, according to the Orange Leader. Silsbee leads the league at 6-0, followed by Little Cypress-Mauriceville at 5-1, Bridge City at 3-3, and Orangefield and Hamshire-Fannett at 2-4.

West Orange-Stark’s forfeiture comes a day after the Silsbee ISD confirmed the discovery of an ineligible girls basketball player who played in five of the Tigers’ games.
