Dispute turns into fight; stab victim dies

A late night disagreement in Port Arthur escalated to a fight, leaving one person dead with a stab wound to the chest.

Port Arthur police have taken a suspect into custody, calling the case one of manslaughter.

The fight occurred at 621 Sixth St., where police were called at 11:30 p.m. for a stabbing incident. They found a male victim there with a stab wound to his chest.

A second man, the suspect, was also at the scene.

Police say during the fight the suspect stabbed the victim with a long knife.

The victim was taken to Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth, but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

The suspect was placed into custody and transported to Port Arthur Police Station for further investigation, according to an issued statement from the city of Port Arthur. After detectives from Criminal Investigation Division interviewed the suspect he was charged with manslaughter.

Neither the victim nor the suspect’s name was immediately released.

An investigation was continuing.
