Mr. Norman Bowen, Sr., “Bro. Bowen”, of Port Arthur passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his residence.  A native of Maringouin, Louisiana, he was a resident of Port Arthur where he worked as a self-employed barber for over 60 years.  Norman was a member of Rock Island Missionary Baptist church where he served as an Elder, a Deacon, and a member of the Male Choir.  He was also a faithful member of Doric 95 Masonic Lodge, Wishful Master Bro. L.K. Mitchell 33.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Rock Island Missionary Baptist Church, 549 W. 11th Street, Port Arthur, TX with visitation from 1 p.m. until service time.  Pastor Kevin Domingo will officiate.  Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy; son, Norman Jr., his parents Charlie and Pearl Bowen; three sisters, Eula, Leaster, and Mildred; six brothers, Charlie, Earl, Bernard, Percy, John, and Joseph.

Cherishing his memories are four sisters, Ann Merkerson of Detroit, MI, Juanita Dupree of New Mexico, Velma (Elzie) Hatch of Maringouin, LA and Ruby Jones of New York; a loving and devoted companion Vernelle King of Port Arthur, TX; God daughters, Kathy Toussant, Tammie Gougisha and Torcher Jones; close friend and caregiver Ray Ledet; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
