An adult and two juveniles were in custody Friday after police say they were involved in a drive-by shooting, led officers on a chase, then crashed their vehicle.
The incident began around 7 a.m. when a man driving a silver Toyota Camry reportedly shot at a vehicle and a house in the 2700 block of 10th Street.
While investigating the incident several hours later, officers heard more shots being fired to the north of this location and two vehicles were identified as possible suspect vehicles — a silver truck and a silver Toyota Camry — according to a news release from the Port Arthur Police Department.
The truck traveled to the station and was found to be the victim of the second shooting.
Officers located the Camry and attempted to stop it but the driver refused to stop, then fled from officers at a high rate of speed.
A lengthy vehicle pursuit ensued as the vehicle traveled toward the west side of Port Arthur, where a pursuit intervention technique, or PIT maneuver, was eventually performed on the vehicle in the 1200 block of West Gulfway Drive to end the chase and prevent harm to other citizens.
A PIT maneuver is when the pursuing vehicle caused the suspect vehicle to turn sideways, causing the driver to lose control.
The vehicle was able to continue after the PIT maneuver and drove though a nearby vacant field and a hurricane fence before ramming head-on into a responding unit in the 1400 Block of Dewalt, where the 20-year-old male driver was taken into custody along with two female juveniles.
A check of the vehicle revealed it was recently stolen from the Hardin County area.
