Port Arthur Police Patrick Melvin isn’t going anywhere soon — or at all.
“I have no intentions of applying for any other position or leaving the city any time in the future,” Melvin said.
The chief, who was recently named one of six finalists for the police commissioner job in St. Louis, Missouri, garnered media attention when his name popped up as a finalist. He earned high scores for the Missouri top spot that eventually went to John Hayden of St. Louis.
“I think council has made it very clear they are happy with the direction we are going,” he said of the changes being instituted within the department. “They have described their support of the police department and the direction we’re going.”
Melvin said he was flattered to have been recruited for the position in Missouri.
“When you are an agent-of-
change police chief, national recruiters will seek you out,” he said. “I’m flattered that happened.”
