Motorists along the 3400 block of FM 365 near Central Mall might have noticed the multi-day demolition of the former Wells Fargo Bank building.

Demolition crews were spotted this week knocking down the three-story building, built in the 1980s, and speculation grew as to what was going on and what was planned for the site.

Ty Morrison, senior communications consultant-Wells Fargo for the Houston area, said the company cannot confirm nor deny details of the lot’s future at this time but may be able to comment after the holidays when one of the managers return.

Rumors also swirled that Christus Southeast Texas Health System bought the property for the purpose of building a micro-hospital — but this wasn’t the case, a spokeswoman said.

Danielle Pardue, marketing and communications manager with Christus, said the rumor is just that, a rumor, not true.

A spokesman for the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce was also unaware of plans for the lot.
